Commissioner trips up proposed ban on burials in Ayodhya

E-Mail this report to a friend

Faizabad Commissioner Prem Narain has asserted that the resolution of the Ayodhya Municipal Board regarding a ban on burial of bodies in Ayodhya will not be approved.

Narain, who is also the ex-officio in charge of the disputed and acquired complex, said yesterday that though the municipal board had not sent him any such resolution, he had seen it and that there was no question of ratifying it.

The commissioner said the resolution had been passed without following the correct procedure. Any proposal for banning burial should be supported by a report from the chief medical officer or any other competent authority to the effect that the practice was creating a hazard for public health and environment.

Such a report was missing in this case, he said.
