ASSEMBLY POLL '98

Governor creating instability, charges LalooRashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav has alleged that Bihar Governor Sunder Singh Bhandari was creating "political instability" in the state. Yadav, who was produced before the special designated Central Bureau of Investigation court along with former chief minister Dr Jagannath Mishra and others in connection with the Rs 9.5 billion fodder scam, told the media that the governor was indulging in petty politics. Whenever the governor went to Delhi or even Tirupati to attend to his personal work, he commented on the law and order problems of Bihar, Yadav said and alleged, ''He was not acting within the constitutional framework" and his main endeavour was to "create political instability." Yadav said the governor should know that he was holding the constitutional office while Rabri Devi was a democratically elected chief minister of the state. Yadav said he had been put under judicial custody in the fodder scam case under a well-hatched conspiracy with a view to preventing him from attending the ongoing winter session of Parliament. He, however, reposed his faith and confidence in the judiciary, saying that he would finally get justice. He hoped that court would grant bail soon facilitating him to attend the ongoing Parliament session. To a query, Yadav said he was not opposed to the women's reservation bill but wanted some amendment in its present form. He said he had been strongly pleading for reservation for the oppressed and suppressed and the weaker sections of the women community as their development was most important. UNI
