'Some progress' in Indo-US talks: Jaswant

E-Mail this report to a friend

The ongoing Indo-US talks have resulted in ''some progress'', and after six rounds the focus is now on four issues, External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh informed the Rajya Sabha today.

The four issues, which India had initially put forward, are the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty, export controls and defence posture, he said in a written reply to Ram Gopal Yadav and Ish Dutt Yadav

The dialogue has resulted in some progress and India firmly conveyed its security concerns as well as the need for it to maintain a minimum credible nuclear deterrent. There now exists some understanding for India's concerns and requirements, he said.

India and the United States have been engaged in this dialogue since June last. The dialogue is being conducted through Jaswant Singh and US Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott. The last round of talks was held in Rome.
