E-Mail this report to a friend

Magan Kasundra, Gujarat's minister of state for urban and rural housing as well as cottage industries, died in Gandhinagar late last night of a heart attack. He was 50, and leaves behind a wife and three sons.

Born in Amaran village of Jamnagar in 1948, Kasundra had represented Jodia constituency in the district since 1990.

His body was brought to the state secretariat, where Governor Anshuman Singh, Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, and Leader of the Opposition Amarsinh Chaudhary were among those who paid tributes.

The body will later be taken to the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters at Khanpur and thence to Navsari, where the last rites will be performed tomorrow morning.

Kasundra is the second Gujarat minister to die in the last 10 days. Savji Korat, minister for roads and buildings, died of brain haemorrhage last week.

Prime Minister A B Vajpayee expressed grief at Kasundra's death, saying India had lost an able administrator.
