5 arrested for negligence in Bombay building mishap

The Bombay police have arrested five persons in connection with the collapse yesterday of the scaffolding around the 20-storeyed Sterling Apartments in Vivek Singh Lane, off Pedder Road.

The Gamdevi police arrested the partners of Painterior India Construction Company -- Asim Durrani Merchant (38) and his brothers Ibrahim (36) and Firoze (34) -- supervisor Moinuddin Sheikh (34) and engineer Sudhir Shinde (32) late last night on charges of negligence.

Meanwhile, another injured labourer died at the Jaslok Hospital, taking the toll in the mishap to 13.
