E-Mail this report to a friend

The Colombo police have arrested the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam's deputy leader of the Sea Tiger brigade, Arunambalam, LTTE intelligence wing chief in Uduppili, Saumaya alias Wanitha, and two other hardcore cadres, the state owned Daily News has reported.

The two LTTE leaders, who have direct contacts with Prabahakaran had come to Colombo on a 'major assignment', the paper said quoting police sources.

Arunambalam has been involved in several major attacks including those at the Konnawala oil refinery and Silawathura army camp.

Saumaya was arrested following a tip-off while she was travelling from Vavuniya to Colombo on forged travel documents. On learning that she has been arrested, Arunambalam had come to the police station to see her. Suspicious, the Kotahena police arrested him. Their interrogation led to the arrest of two more LTTE suspects.
