Three soldiers were killed and six others, including a brigadier of the Bhutan Royal Army, were injured in an ambush by unidentified extremists at Rangapani in Assam today.

Official sources said all the injured had been brought to Guwahati by helicopter and admitted to the army hospital at Bashistha.

The sources said the extremists waylaid the convoy of Brigadier Patoo Tshring of the royal army of Bhutan when he was proceeding towards Patacharkuchi in Assam from Namkerang in Bhutan with his escort party.

Three soldiers were killed on the spot. The condition of one of the injured was stated to be critical.

High civil and police officials rushed to the spot with additional forces and launched a combing operation to nab the extremists, sources said.
