Mahajan blasts Jaya

Pramod Mahajan, former political advisor to the prime minister and Rajya Sabha MP, has come down heavily on All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham chief J Jayalalitha for refusing to reply to his letter. He said this itself shows that she has no evidence about her charges that heavy bribes were paid to certain persons in the Prime Minister's Office for the transfer of Enforcement Director M K Bezbaruah.

''I don't need any certificate regarding my political status, least from a person who has no moral right to talk about it,'' Mahajan said while reacting to Jayalalitha's comment in Madras yesterday that she was not answerable to any ''Tom, Dick and Harry''.

He retorted, ''Even I don't write letters to people below my standard. But she provoked me to write because she was making indirect accusations against me.''

Calling her charges ''baseless'' and ''motivated'', he said while making allegations, she did not think ''I was just another Tom, Dick and Harry''.

Mahajan said he saw no threat to the A B Vajpayee government and added that it was firm and stable. ''We do not want any of our allies to leave us. But, they also have legitimate right to review their support to us.''
