Men of world take rich Indian girls for a ride in alien places

A kind of new marriage racket has been exposed in Thane, Maharashtra.

Foreign-based Indian youths woo young, rich girls, marry them, squeeze them dry financially - and then throw them out.

The modus operandi is this: The said youngsters place advertisements in newspapers seeking brides. Rich, young girls, who do not have parents or any supporting members in the family are what they are looking for. Easy to try their tricks on them, you see. Once identified, the poor maiden is swept off her feet with flowers, chocolates, dance, dinner... the works.

Then there is a sudden haste. The bridegroom is got to return to work immediately, so how about getting married now, huh? A hefty dowry, naturally, is asked for and received. Thereafter, the bride is taken to whichever is the country concerned.

Then start the demands. For money, money and more money.

Finally, when the hapless girl expresses her inability to cough up anything more, her husband dear nods understandingly and points to the door. And, ma'am, shut the door after you, will you?

The Thane police have launched a manhunt in this connection for an engineer from Atlanta, USA, and his parents who tortured a Bombay-based, well-educated, 26-year-old girl.

The situation has become so bad that the people from Kerala, Andhra and Karnataka, previously crazy for NRI boys, are now refusing to give their girls in marriage to foreign-based youths.
