Laloo aide held for rape

Mritunjay Yadav, son of Bihar Women Welfare Board Chairperson Hemlata Yadav, was arrested in Patna yesterday in connection with the alleged rape of IAS officer B B Biswas's wife Champa Biswas.

The accused was remanded to judicial custody in the Beur central jail till September 4 by Sushma Sinha, subdivisional magistrate, Patna.

The police said Mritunjay, alias Babloo, was arrested following registration of a first information report with the Kotwali police station a few days ago. Five people, including Hemlata Yadav, were named in the FIR. Babloo is reportedly a close aide of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav.

In her statement, Champa alleged that the accused raped her and her relatives between 1995 and 1997 under coercion.
