US, Pak to try talking matters over again

Pakistan and the United States will hold another round of talks in London later this month on wide-ranging issues, including the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and regional security.

Both the countries feel that this might be a 'decisive' discussion.

"We hope the US will have a better understanding of our vital security concerns," a senior Pakistan foreign ministry official said.

On Sunday, White House official had told Pakistani journalists that Washington expected the talks, between Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbot and Pakistan Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmad, to settle issues.

Pakistan maintains an open position on the CTBT, but stresses that its regional security concerns be considered in detail. When Pakistan would accede to the CTBT can only be determined after the country's vital security concerns are fully safeguarded, Shamshed Ahmad had told journalists at the end of the third round of talks in Islamabad last month.
