Karnataka House is not Rotary club to meet whenever members please: Patel

Karnataka Chief Minister J H Patel on Wednesday rejected the Congress demand that the state assembly be convened to discuss the Cauvery water agreement.

"The assembly is not the Rotary club to meet as per the whims and fancies of political leaders," he told newsmen after performing boomi pooja for a by-pass road between Hubli and Dharwad.

Patel said he had consulted political leaders before the Cauvery water scheme was formulated. The new agreement would not affect the ongoing irrigation projects in the state, he added.

In answer to a question, he predicted a mid-term poll to the Lok Sabha.

He ruled out a state cabinet reshuffle in the near future. The ruling Janata Dal was being revamped at taluk and district levels. A meeting of the party legislature wing would be held on Thursday for this purpose, Patel said.

Referring to the increased activities of the underworld in the state, the chief minister said the government had taken necessary steps to check it.
