Floods claim 105 livesThe death toll in the Bihar floods has reached 105. According to the relief control room in Patna, 5,388 villages in 170 blocks of 21 districts have been hit by the floods, inundating a total area of 1.166 million hectares. Standing crops worth more than Rs 776.2 million have been washed away and public property of over Rs 34.4 million destroyed so far. More than 7.5 million people have been affected. Rescue work is in progress with 3,313 boats. About 716 relief centres and 1,084 health camps are working round the clock. More than 7,818.32 quintals of food grains and 6,978 quintals of food packets have been distributed among the affected families. Officials said the government has also started giving Rs 50,000 each to the family of the deceased. This forms the first instalment of the Rs 100,000 ex gratia compensation. UNI
