Maharashtra prepares for Srikrishna aftermathThe Maharashtra government said it had made a detailed study of sensitive areas in the state and has deployed police and paramilitary forces to handle trouble after the Srikrishna Commission report and the action taken report are tabled in the state legislature tomorrow. Addressing a meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party ministers, MLAs, corporators and office-bearers at the BJP pradesh office here, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde urged people not to fall prey to any kind of rumours. Earlier, making a statement at the question hour of state assembly, he said that adequate security arrangements have been made to meet any eventuality in the wake of tabling of the much-awaited report. He made this statement replying to a specific question asked by the leader of the opposition in state assembly Madhukar Pichad. He informed that six battalions of the Rapid Action Force, an adequate number of Central Reserve Police Force batallions, Maharashtra and addition reinforcement of the State Reserve Police Force had already been stationed in the city to prevent the Inter-Services Intelligence and other anti-social elements from taking advantage of the situation. In the party meeting, Munde said the tabling of the report may be seen differently by different sections of society. He said the state administration and the police machinery was fully prepared to meet any challenge. The meeting was chaired by BJP city unit president and MLA Kirit Somaiya. Prominent among those who attended the meeting were Minister of State for Housing Raj Purohit and Vijay Girker. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray also held a meeting with city corporators and location chiefs. Details of the meeting were not yet available. |
