Reports about PM's health baseless: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party today described as baseless, motivated and mischievious the report carried by an international daily and a national daily about Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's health.

The prime minister is in good health and has no plans, whatsoever, about going over to the US for treatment, party spokesman M Venkaiah Naidu asserted.

He demanded that the publisher of the newspaper issue a clarification along with an apology, failing which the BJP would take up the case to the Press Council.

He regretted that the newspaper did not bother to crosscheck the facts from the Prime Minister's Office before carrying the report. "This is nothing but irresponsible journalism. It flouts all canons of fair and objective reporting," Naidu said.
