Pak infiltrators among 10 killed in J&K

Three security personnel and three Pakistani infiltrators were among 10 people killed in the Kashmir valley during the last 24 hours.

An official spokesperson said security forces shot dead three Pakistani infiltrators who crossed into India from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in Chang area this morning. The body of Mohammad Shafiq, who was kidnapped from Kandi Mohre on April 24, was recovered from Hans Nallah, the spokesperson said.

Militants shot at and critically wounded a security personnel at Warnow in the frontier district of Kupwara. When the security forces returned fire, the militants fled, Twenty-two grenades, six remote control devices, a wireless set, five magazines and 115 rounds were recovered near the site of the encounter.

The spokesperson said security forces killed three militants in an encounter at Bandi Haril in north Kashmir last evening. One soldier was also killed. Forces later recovered six grenades, 20 detonators and 294 rounds of ammunition from the site.

Militants allegedly shot at a search party at Kadura Bandipora last evening, killing one soldier, before escaping into the thick forests, the spokesperson said. He said security forces and militants exchanged fire at Surankote, Bhonsheru, Kandota, Rankha and Aharote areas. However, no one was hurt in these clashes.

The spokesman said militants fired upon a police picket established to guard families of the minority community at Saidpora village in Pulwama. The guards fired back but there were no reports of casualties.

Three militants allegedly surrendered at Kupwara along with arms and ammunition and security forces captured one militant each at Sopore and Panditpora during overnight operations.
