Sunstroke deaths in Andhra reach 10The relentless heatwave sweeping Andhra Pradesh since last week has claimed 10 lives. The highest number of deaths -- six -- was reported in Nizamabad district. Officials said the others died in Dichpally, Jakranpally (one each) and Kurnool district (two). The day's highest temperature of 44 degree celsius was recorded in the coal town of Ramagundam. Hyderabad recorded 42 degree celsius. Heat wave conditions also prevailed in parts of Kashmir. Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and parts of North Rajasthan, Central Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and northern interior Karnataka, and above normal in the hills of West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, South Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, coastal and southern interior Karnataka, Kerala and the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu. They were markedly below normal in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and parts of Bihar plains, and appreciably below normal in parts of Gangetic West Bengal. They were below normal in parts of East Uttar Pradesh, North Gujarat, and normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh from where data was sparse. Rain or thundershowers occurred at a few places in West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar plains, Rayalaseema, southern interior Karnataka, Kerala and at one or two places in Assam, Meghalaya, Orissa, Bihar plateau, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Very light rain occurred at one or two places in West Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, coastal and southern interior Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and at one or two places in Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and northern interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the rest of the country.
