Power plants asked to reduce pollution

The Environment Protection Authority for the national capital has directed the Delhi Vidyut Board and the National Thermal Power Corporation to get the requisite quality coal to reduce the pollution caused by their plants.

At its sitting in New Delhi last week, the EPA told the two organisation to post officers at the pit head to check the quality of the coal being supplied for the plants.

As for the pollution caused by the large amounts of fly-ash generated by the plants, the NTPC informed the authority, set up by the Supreme Court, that the present utilisation of fly-ash was 20 per cent but the corporation was finalising plans to increase it to 45 per cent in the next few years.

The process of clearing the fly-ash brick manufacturing project at the Indraprastha power station by the Delhi Development Authority has been expedited, the NTPC informed the authority.
