Swamy meets SoniaIn a significant development, former Union minister and Janata Party president, Dr Subramanian Swamy, a close associate of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham general secretary J Jayalalitha, called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her residence on Saturday evening. The meeting lasted about 20 minutes. Dr Swami, however, declined to divulge the nature of discussions he had with Sonia. But speculation was rife that Dr Swamy was exploring the possibility of forming an alternative government with the Congress support if and when the AIADMK withdraws support to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Dr Swamy also met President K R Narayanan at the Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier in the day and submitted a memorandum listing various charges against ministers in the Vajpayee government. UNI
