Kerala will not ban fundamentalist outfits: CM

The question of banning any fundamentalist or extremist organisation in Kerala is not under the government's consideration at present, Chief Minister E K Nayanar informed the state assembly.

However, it has come to the government's notice that certain extremist organisations, which threatened to undermine the unity and integrity of the country, have spread their tentacles to different parts of the state. The government has taken all necessary steps to ensure that such anti-national forces do not gain strength, Nayanar said.

The chief minister was replying to a call-attention motion on the need to ban extremist and fundamentalist organisations in Kerala.

Nayanar said the authorities had been keeping a constant vigil on the moves of organisations such as Al Umma, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

The government has already created a cell to monitor the activities of such organisations, he said.
