US rules out action against Pak for Ghauri test-firing

The United States has ruled out unilateral action against Pakistan for the surface-to-surface missile Ghauri test-firing, stating that it was entirely Pakistan's indigenous effort.

Highly placed sources said the United States had not been able to confirm whether China had actually supported Pakistan in the manufacture of the missile and wanted to believe that it was produced indigenously.

They said the US did not want to impose one-sided restrictions since it believed that the Missile Technology Control Regime could not be applied against Pakistan alone. It said both India and Pakistan needed to make efforts to prevent a missile race.
