Karnataka JD unit chief elected unopposed to RS

Karnataka Janata Dal working president and former minister, Professor A Lakshmisagar was elected unopposed on Monday in the by-election to the Rajya Sabha from the state assembly.

Legislature Secretary and returning officer Yakub Shariff declared Professor Lakshmisagar elected after the expiry of deadline for withdrawal of nominations today.

The by-election was caused by the resignation of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, on his election to the Lok Sabha from Hassan in the recent general election.

T D R Harishchandra had filed his papers as Congress candidate. But his papers had been rejected during scrutiny.
