Vajpayee may have fought his last election

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has indicated that he will not fight any more elections.

During his reply in the Lok Sabha to the motion of thanks to the President for his address to the joint sitting of both Houses on Tuesday, Vajpayee said this had been his last election.

The prime minister became nostalgic when he recalled his early days when he had been attracted to the Students Federation of India, a Communist organisation, and at the same time had been a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

He recalled that he had fought his first election in 1957 from Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh with the help of just two jeeps. This, he said, was impossible today.
