Celluloid magic isn't limited to stars alone. Nearly everything looks larger-than-life and more appealing on big screen.

And that includes food.

Whether it's the memory of Brad Pitt devouring spoonfuls of smooth peanut butter in Meet Joe Black and Meryl Streep baking the most scrumptious chocolate croissant in It's Complicated or our very own Bollywood mommies urging their sons and daughters to try portions of their favourite gajar ka halwa or kheer or characters pledging over bread pakoras, food on film induces universal drool.

No wonder the recipe behind the recently released Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana is garnering so much acclaim.

On that note, here's looking at some of the most foodie moments in Hindi films.

Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana

The flavours of Punjab come alive in Sameer Sharma's directorial debut, projected as Bollywood's first food film, where hunting for the family recipe of the titular dish Chicken Khurana -- a supremely popular chicken curry directs this slice-of-life story and the fun it leads to through oddball characters.

Cheeni Kum

It all happens over an order of Hyderabadi Zaffrani Pulao.

In R Balki's whimsical romantic comedy, Amitabh Bachchan plays an arrogant chef who is riled up after Tabu gives it a thumbs down.

But it's the part where Big B lists out the ingredients ranging from shudh ghee to basmati rice that has your tummy growling for a sampling.

Mujhse Dosti Karoge

While most couples bond over movies or shared interests, Hrithik Roshan and Rani Mukerji find a common ground in their love for 'gobhi ke parathe' in Kunal Kohli's Mujhse Dosti Karoge.

Not just that our hero actually figures out Rani's presence in his London office by a mere whiff of the parathas in question traveling all the way from India.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Aditya Chopra's breezy love story about a husband masquerading as a cooler version of himself to win his wife's heart has a lot of lively moments. There's one in which he, played by Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma challenge each other to a pani puri competition.

Only, Anushka, no doubt a worthy contender, cannot match SRK's appetite when it comes to swallowing by the dozens.

The funny part is that after all those pani puris, there's a tray full of biryani waiting for the sober SRK to do justice at home.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

The way to a woman's heart is also through her stomach.

As Ranbir Kapoor finds out by feeding Katrina Kaif her favourite dish of piping hot moong dal bhajiya and pudina chutney in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.

Wake Up Sid

Ranbir Kapoor starts out as a rich, clueless kid kicked out from a life of comfort. And the man cannot even cook a basic meal.

Through the course of this coming of age film, RK not only creates a spontaneous, layered cake of bread slices and jam for Konkona Sen Sharma on her birthday but also learns to make a perfect omelet. Now that's what we call slurp-worthy symbolism.

Chashme Buddoor

Long before Preity Zinta craved for Ben and Jerry's Belgian Dark Chocolate in Salaam Namaste, Deepti Naval pioneered the cause for ice cream (or heem cream as Kader Khan's Yamraj referred to it all through in Taqdeerwala) with her beloved Tutti Frutti while dating the shy Farookh Shaikh against the grand open-air garden view cafes of Delhi in Sai Paranjpe's endearing romcom.

Break Ke Baad

Imran Khan dumps his life and dreary office cabin in India to pursue his girlfriend (Deepika Padukone) in Break Ke Baad in Australia.

But when she dumps him back, IK has no alternative but stay back and channel his inner chef with what starts out as a modest stall selling murgh musalam aur paratha to setting up an upscale, fine-dining restaurant down under.

A triumphant moment arrives when the boy -- Stanley finally gets a princely dabba packed with delicacies and leaves everyone wide-eyed and hungry.

Zinda

Sanjay Gupta doesn't use any imagination while ripping off South Korean thriller, Oldboy.

And like the original, the hero (Sanjay Dutt), held captive in a dim cell, is constantly treated to a meal of wontons for 14 excruciating years.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!

Festivities and food headlined the greatest wedding of 1994. And besides various sightings of lip smacking varieties of North Indian khana typical to marriage celebrations, even the lyrics ensure the theatre applauds with a rumbling stomach.

Here's a teaser:

Dahi Bade Lo. Mood Nahin Hai.

Kulfi Kha Lo. Bahut Kha Chuke.

Paan Kha Lo. Bahut Kha Chuke.

Aji Ras Malai. Aapke Liye. Itni Mithai. Aapke Liye.
