What not to wear at the red carpet

Red carpet is as important, if not more, as the awards function it leads up to.

Full of high-end glamour and sizzling style, it's when the ladies dress to the nines and soak in the limelight. Getting accolades for their look is akin to winning a trophy for Bollywood's divas.

It's not always so thrilling though. For, oh, those who get it wrong, get it so wrong, it's a real shame.

It could be helped though. With the awards season in full swing, here are a couple of tips to Bollywood's hottest women on what not to wear.

It's hard to tell whether that balloon-like structure on the Kites hottieis a deflating parachute or a dyed potato sack.

Lesson learned: If you've got a curvaceous body, pick a silhouette that enhances your shape instead of drowning it in yards of bloated fabric.

Unless it's prom night, there's no excuse for Rani Mukerji to dress up in a frilly frock. It's neither appropriate nor cute.

Lesson learned: Stay away from dresses that scream 'tweens.'

Is it a sari? Is it a lehenga? Is it a sharara? Ash keeps us guessing, in a not very good way, in this clumsy looking hotchpotch of velvet, silk, sheer and conflicting embellishments.

Lesson learned: Too many flamboyant elements in one dress make it over-the-top. Choose elegance over extravagance.

It's quite a pity when a charming young woman like Jacqueline picks areally dowdy, saggy velvet gown to a high-profile event. Really, she could do so much better.

Lesson learned: Say no to ill-fitting clothes. A good fit makes all the difference.

Her sparkling complexion and disarming smile make Prachi quite a treat to watch. At the same time her inconsistency on the red carpet continues to try our patience. Like how this animal-print dress is way too edgy for her sweet girl persona to work.

Lesson learned: Pick outfits that blend with/are an extension of your personality in place of what's in.

The sari's not bad but Riya gets it all wrong. The overall effect wouldn't be so offensive if Ms Sen would have draped it right and picked an aesthetically-designed halter blouse over this gym-like bustier in silver.

Lesson learned: Do not wear a sari if you don't know how to tie it or treat its pallu.

Often movie stars forget to draw the line between real and reel. No wonder they end up dressing up in a costume-y clothes even for an off screen event. Like Kangna here. She looks right in the middle of an elaborate song sequence.

Lesson learned: No going anywhere near an outfit that says Idlidoo till Halloween.

It's hard to pick the worst between loud, tacky and gaudy. Clearly, these girls are in desperate need of stylists. For starters, how about grabbing a copy of Vogue?

Lesson learned: When in doubt, stick to basic colours and silhouettes.
