Seventies is a revered decade for most fashion fanatics. Even as Bollywood came under the grip of the 'angry young man' syndrome, this livewire decade was more than happy to evolve in what came to be known as the retro look of the 1970s.
With its wild expression of colors, prints and a fondness for edgy flamboyance, it's no surprise the fad of dressing up to notice became so hugely popular.
Vipul Amrutlal Shah's Action Replayy time travels to this vibrant period allowing its cast of Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Neha Dhupia and Rannvijay Singh to get a fun makeover.
Of course, the inspiration taken from the trendsetting icons of that time in Bollywood is hard to miss. Here's a look at the fashion of Action Replayy as we connect it to the paraphernalia associated with this unbelievably stylish era.
Bellbottom mania!
While the current crop of actors swear by skinny jeans and boot cuts, the 70s brigade was all about flared at the rim.
Though not everyone could pull them off with the panache of real-life jodi Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, hideous colours notwithstanding.
Looks like Akki has accomplished the feat without any trouble.
A stamp of psychedelic
Image: Scenes from Trishul and Action ReplayyWhat's a bell bottom without an equally glitzy shirt?
And so fierce psychedelic or floral prints on shirts accented by pointed collars dominated the scene.
Akshay and Ash's kaleidoscopic patterns bring back memories of a suave Shashi Kapoor and Hema Malini in Trishul.
Hair flair

Bouffant made way for this semi-beehive like hairdo with colourful scarves or dupatta doing the job of a hair-band.
Both Ash and Neha take a cue from Leena Chandravarkar's style file for a lively Holi sequence in the movie.
The Big B touch!

Very 70s-appropriate too!
Over-sized does matter!
Image: Babita and Neha DhupiaA seventies specialty, the over-sized sunglasses are back in fashion.
Back then, however, stars demonstrated a special liking for white-rimmed ones. Full marks to Neha for doing a perfect Babita impersonation.
The scarves story
Image: Dev Anand and Rannvijay SinghOthers like Rajesh Khanna and Randhir Kapoor wore one occasionally but Dev Anand and scarves are synonymous with each other.
Video jockey turned actor Rannvijay Singh attempts to emulate the style guru with a tame version of an uber cool accessory.
Of belts, boots and booty
Image: Saira Banu, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and MumtazIf you thought it was Urmila Matondkar's leggy display in Rangeela that began the trend of mini-dresses and long boots, think again.
Here's Saira Banu in Purab Aur Paschim and Apradh's Mumtaz working up a combined look that would be future inspiration for Ash's sleek and sexy avatar in Action Replayy.
Getting knotty with it!
Image: Scenes from Bobby and Action ReplayyClearly Aishwarya's Mala in Action Replayy is a fan of Dimple Kapadia's classic polka dot knotted shirt in Bobby and Neetu Singh's hip bell sleeves in Khel Khel Mein.
The pretty actress blends the twain together to flaunt a chic retro vibe.
Hoop, hoop hurray!
Image: Jaya Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai BachchanRaveena Tandon may have made them her trademark but extra long hoops/earrings ruled the world of bling all through seventies.
Everyone from Rekha, Raakhee, Zeenat Aman to Ash's mom-in-law, Jaya Bachchan became part of the hoops bandwagon. And now, so is the other Mrs Bachchan.
