Vijay G in Kochi
There are two releases in Malayalam today (August 10). One of them, Simhasanam, is written and directed by Shaji Kailas, with Prithviraj as the hero.
The other is Gramam, directed by actor-producer Mohan Sharma. Here is a closer look at the two films.
Simhasanam

Cast: Prithviraj, Sai Kumar, Aiswarya Devan, Vandana
Simhasanam talks about the strong bond between a father and son from a wealthy family. It is a hardcore commercial entertainer. It is reportedly inspired by the old Mohanlal hit, Naduvazhikal.
Madhava Menon (Sai Kumar) is the patriarch of the aristocratic Chandragiri family. His son Arjun (Prithviraj) is studying in Bangalore. Nanda (Aiswarya Devan) is Arjun's classmate and Lakshmi (Vandana), who familiar to the family, are the heroines.
Produced by S Chandrakumar under the banner of Malavika Productions, Simhasanam also has Thilakan, Siddique, Devan and Sana Beegum in the cast.
The cinematographer is Saravanan and the music director is Ronnie Raphael.
Gramam

Cast: Nishaan, Samvrutha Sunil, Sukumari, Nedumudi Venu
Directed by Mohan of Chattakkari fame, Gramam shot to fame when it won awards at the state and national levels. The film is a bilingual, made in Malayalam and in Tamil as Namma Gramam.
It is the first part of a trilogy on the Palakkad Brahmin community. Gramam is the story of a child widow and how she fights against the conventions existing in society.
Veteran actor Sukumari won the National award for the best supporting actor for her role in this film.
Mohan has written, directed, acted and produced the film. Madhu Ambat is the cinematographer.
