'I wasn't serious about pursuing a career in films'

Deepa Sannidhi is the new, young and happening star-in-the-making in Kannada films. She tasted success in her first two films, Saarathi and Paramatma, although she didn't get credit for their successes.

Deepa hails from Chickmagalur. She dropped out of college to pursue her budding film career and also does some modelling and has completed a one-year course in jewellery designing.

Her latest release, Jaanu, opposite Yash, is hitting the screens this Friday across Karnataka.

In this interview with Srikanth Srinivasa, Deepa Sannidhi talks about Jaanu and her role.

Your first two films Saarathi and Paramatma did very well at the box-office, especially the former...

Both the movies were successful and I am happy to have been a part of them. But, I have a long, long way to go.

There's an ocean out there and I have a lot to explore with my roles.   

What kind of recognition did you get because of these films although they were mostly hero-oriented films?

People recognised Deepa and my work in the two movies. I am content with the roles I played.

How did you get into acting? It is said that you were not very serious about a career in films?

I completed my schooling and college in Bangalore and I was studying in the first year in architectural engineering when opportunity knocked on my door in the form of a film offer for Saarathi.

I dropped out of college as I was unable to give studies enough time.

Yes, I wasn't very serious about pursuing a career in films. I wanted time to make firm decisions as this industry was entirely new to me.

What is Jaanu all about? What is your role in it?

Jaanu is a complete entertainer. It has action, romance, comedy and emotions. I should say that the film is very beautifully presented by the team.

I play an innocent, outspoken and admirable girl from Hubli.

What kind of preparation went into your role, especially the Hubli dialect you speak? How comfortable were you with the role?

When I was approached for the movie I was informed that I would have to mouth my lines in the Hubli dialect throughout the movie.

It sounded exciting because it would give me an opportunity to explore another side of my performance.

When the dialogue writer Guru recited a few lines and I was asked to repeat them, I was really scared. However, I was determined to learn all the lines.

The whole script was given 20 days prior to the shooting. All the dialogues were recorded on a cassette so that it would be clearer.

Thanks to my director Preetham Gubbi for making things very comfortable for me. I did not take much time and the team was generous in giving me enough time for preparation.

What can the audiences expect from this film and from you?

Again, the film is an entertainer.

As for me, people will get to see a different side of my acting. And they will surely love the Hubli girl as she is innocent, admirable and outspoken.

Which are the other films that you are currently working on?

I am currently working with Ganesh in Sakkare (sugar) which is being directed by Abhaya Simha and I have signed Bachchan in which I am starring opposite Sudeep.
