Four Kannada films fight it out this week

Notwithstanding the complaints of the Kannada film industry that there are not enough theatres to screen Kannada movies, four films are ready to release this Friday. Here's a quick look at what they offer. 

AK 56

Director: Omprakash Rao

Cast: Siddanth, Shirin, Sumalatha, Sharath Babu

One of the costliest Kannada films produced, for an estimated Rs 12 crore, this is Omprakash Rao's 25th film as director. He directed the super hit Shivarajkumar-starrer AK 47 more than a decade back.

AK 56 is based on a real-life incident that occurred in Punjab when it was a hotbed of terrorism.

A 15-minute car chase on the famous Bangalore-Mysore expressway, popularly called the NICE Road, cost Rs 1.5 crore. A chopper has also been used to shoot some thrilling sequences. The climax of the film has been shot beside the Krishnarajasagar dam near Mysore.

Cinematography is by S Manohar, and Abhimaan has scored the music. Palaniraj has composed the stunts. Dances are choreographed by Tribhuvan and Harsha.

The film is produced under the banner of Silver Screen Pictures by V Venkatesh Babu and M Govindaraju.

Cast: Rakshit Shetty, Meghana Gaonkar

The movie turns the spotlight on the dilemmas and confusions of the human mind and how we make decisions in our day-to-day lives.

The filmmakers say that despite the title, the film has nothing to do with the famous Muslim ruler Mohammed Bin Tughlaq. They say it is about the human tendency to be indecisive and impracticable. These are characteristics often associated with the historical Mohammed Bin Tughlaq.

The film is scripted and edited by Aravind Kaushik. Manu Apler is the cinematographer. Arjun has scored the music and Shivu has composed the stunts. Devanand has choreographed the songs.

The film is produced by White Air Entertainment.

Cast: Suraj, Sowjanya, Sharath Lohitaswa,

The film is based on the goings-on in Bangalore's oldest residential locality, Gavipura, where it has been actually shot.

Gavipura marks the return of Kumar as director. He made Maari Kannu Hori Myagi, a Jaggesh starrer that went on to become a hit some years back.

Suraj and Sowjanya are debuting in the movie.

J G Krishna is the cinematographer. Rajesh Ramanath has scored the music and Malur Srinivas and Sada have choreographed the dance numbers. The fights have been composed by Daniel.

Director: Prabhu Srinivas

Cast: Diganth, Aindrita Ray

After Manasaare, the popular hit pair Diganth and Aindrita Ray is back as young lovers. This film is a remake of the Tamil romantic comedy Boss Engira Bhaskaran that starred Nayanthara and Arya.

Music director Mano Murthy of Mungaru Male fame has scored the music that is beginning to top the charts.

Srinivas Devanand is the cinematographer and Ravivarma has composed the stunts. Prabha Srinivas and Babukumar have choreographed the dance numbers.

Prem Kumar and Paramesh have produced the film.
