There's plenty of reasons why we should look forward to the Telugu film Vedam. For starters, it's Radhakrishna (Krish) Jagarlamudi's second film after Gamyam, which won many awards.

Then there's the star cast comprising of Allu Arjun, Anushka, Manoj Manchu, Manoj Bajpai, Lekha Washington (better known for her role as a presenter in the first IPL), Siya Gautham, Deeksha Seth, Saranya, Brahmanandam, Raghu Babu, Posani Krishnamurali and Satyam Rajesh.

The plot too sounds interesting -- it tells the stories of five different people connected by a single thread and hence a multiple screenplay. Then you have music by M M Keeravani.

While Gamyam was produced by Krish's father Saibaba Jagarlamudi, this time he got Prasad Devineni and Shobu Yarlagadda (under Arka Media) to produce Vedam.

Plus, the secrecy surrounding the film was pretty intriguing too. Nothing was disclosed about the film till the poster and stills rolled out a few days ago. The audio was also released recently.

The three main leads in this film are essayed by Allu Arjun, Anushka and Manoj Manchu. Allu Arjun is Cable Raju, a cable operator from the lower strata of society; Manoj is the upcoming rock star, Vivek Chakravarthy while Anushka is Saroja, a sex worker. Manoj Bajpai plays the fourth character.

Anushka decided to do the role of a sex worker after listening to the script.

"When you do good movies which are successful (like Arundhati), your confidence level goes up. I don't want to do similar roles so when Krish came with the role of a prostitute in Vedam, I jumped at it," she says.

At the audio function Krish provided a synoptic view of the film by saying, "Vedam means Dhyanam (meditation) and Gnanam (knowledge). The story of the movie is about people who are like moths and who later turn into beautiful butterflies."

Vedam has the same editor (Sravan K) and art director (Rajiv Nair) who worked in Gamyam but a different cinematographer (Gnansekhar V N). The action sequences are taken care of by Ram-Laxman.

The film, scheduled for release around May 27, will be a litmus test for Krish as he will have to live up to expectations and the standard set by Gamyam.
