Knowledge of dance is one of the foremost requirements for Bollywood stars. Jiggling to a chartbuster not only boosts their demand among fans but also stage concerts-hosting sponsors.
While the likes of Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit, Govinda, Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor regale audiences with their flexibility and poise, the technique-defying, self-styled antics of Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakravarthy or even Salman Khan enjoy their own set of followers.
Some actors, however, cannot escape their horrid two left feet and potentially ruin a dishy number with their gawky moves. Think you know who?
So then go on and VOTE for your LEAST favourite dancer at the end of this slide show.
Sunny Deol
Image: Sunny Deol and Prakash Raj in Singh Saab The GreatDancing has never been Sunny Deol’s forte. And he spent the better part of his career concealing it till the hilarious foot-banging steps of Jeet grabbed eyeballs.
During a recently aired episode of Bigg Boss 7, the introvert Jat didn’t hesitate to make light of it, demonstrating how it’s done to a visibly tickled Salman Khan.
And if you still need more proof, just observe his out of sync enactment of dad Dharmendra’s signature move as opposed to brother Bobby Deol’s picture perfect copy.
Vidya Balan
Image: Vidya Balan in Ferrari Ki SawaariEven the finest of actors can have a weakness.
Unlike her nuanced performances, Vidya Balan bulky dance delivery and ungainly thumkas aren’t made of award-winning stuff.
For all her emphasis on ‘entertainment, entertainment, entertainment’ the 35-year-old is no Silk on the dance floor.
Sonam Kapoor
Image: Sonam Kapoor in RaanjhannaDo you realise she’s the only actress among her peers to have no significant dance numbers to her credit?
Sonam Kapoor has a charming screen presence but she’s no hoofer. There’s no dynamism in her step. The Raanjhanaa girl is more preoccupied with looking pretty than involved.
Even veteran choreographer Saroj Khan agrees. “Sonam has learned Kathak. I have also trained her for two years. Still, she’s not a good dancer,” she tells us.
Sanjay Dutt
Image: Sanjay Dutt in Lage Raho MunnabhaiOrder him to break a leg and he’ll do it willingly.
Trouble is Sanjay Dutt reads it as one and the same from BOTH -- the action and dance director.
Dutt’s dull, disinterested, mechanical moves are even more glaring when he’s sharing the frame with a live wire like Madhuri Dixit.
Ajay Devgn
Image: Tamannah and Ajay Devgn in HimmatwalaIt’s not like Ajay Devgn is incapable of co-ordination. The man made his debut standing tall on two moving bikes after all.
But the actor seems to abhor dancing. And it shows.
His stiff, self-conscious and uncomfortable body language is most apparent when he tries to take on Jeetendra’s dancing shoes in Himmatwala’s Taaki and Tathaiya Ho.
John Abraham

John Abraham’s bare torso comes in handy to distract viewers from the terrible left feet syndrome.
Kalki Koechlin
Image: Kalki KoechlinIf only her dancing skills were half as eloquent as her straightforward speech.
Kalki Koechlin’s inadequacies are particularly highlighted when she romps about like a nonplussed bunny around the likes of Ranbir Kapoor (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) and Hrithik Roshan (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara).
And she admits that dancing is tough for her. "If I ever had do an item song, I would need a four month rehearsal!" she once told us in an interview.
Kangna Ranaut
Image: Kangna Ranaut in RascalsShe may have played a nautch girl in her last release, Rajjo but Kangna Ranaut is far from accomplished as a dancer.
There’s something gauche and laboured about her discordant moves. Her expressions are saying something, her body another.
Tabu

Thankfully, Tabu took her own advice and stuck with substance over swing.
