Rohit Khilnani takes a look at the initial box office response to Shah Rukh Khan's movies over the last 10 years.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)

JTHJ is the big Diwali release of 2012 starring Shah Rukh Khan with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma as the female leads.
The film released in about 2,600-3,000 screens in India. Despite being released on Lakshmi pooja day, Jab Tak Hai Jaan collected Rs 15.23 crore on the first day.
Ra.One (2011)

The film opened in around 3000 screens across India and managed to collect Rs 18.25 crore from Hindi, Telugu and Tamil versions.
All eyes were on the box office to see whether SRK would touch the opening day collection of Salman Khan's Bodyguard which was slightly over Rs 20 crore.
Ra.One had a five-day Diwali weekend and did exceptional business. The problem was its mega budget.
Don 2 (2011)

The sequel to the 2006 Don starring Shah Rukh Khan opened on a working day, Friday, and managed an occupancy of around 80 percent in India.
The film made Rs 14.6 crore from its Hindi version on the opening day and touched around Rs 45 crore over the weekend.
At the end of its theatre run, Don 2 collected around Rs 106.22 crore in India, making it the fourth highest grossing film of 2011.
My Name Is Khan (2010)

With Shah Rukh and Kajol coming together again and Karan Johar directing Bollywood's favourite onscreen pair, My Name Is Khan had the right buzz and it turned out to be an out-and-out blockbuster.
The opening day collection was Rs 10.85 crore. The weekend collection was as high as Rs 29.5 crore. That was the third highest weekend collection at that time.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)

In this romantic comedy Shah Rukh Khan played a character with different shades. The film released only two weeks after the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack.
Trade pundits had their doubts about how much business the film could generate. But the audience had no doubts.
The film was very well received by critics and audiences alike. It was a blockbuster.
The opening week collection was around Rs 42 crore. The opening day collection was as high as Rs 9.15 crore. The entire theatre run made around Rs 157.89 crore.
Om Shanti Om (2007)

The much hyped and much talked about film Om Shanti Om directed by choreographer turned director Farah Khan, was inspired by Rishi Kapoor's 1980 film Karz.
The songs composed by Vishal Shekhar were a big hit and critics and audiences alike gave the film a thumbs-up.
OSO was released in 2000 prints worldwide and the gross collection on the opening day was Rs 8.26 crore
In India, the film opened in around 878 cinemas and collected a whopping Rs 65.65 crore in the first two weeks.
Chak De! India (2007)

Chak De! India was about the rise of the Indian women's hockey team with Shah Rukh Khan playing the team's coach.
The film didn't open too well but with positive word of mouth it eventually turned out to be a blockbuster.
The opening day collection was around 60 per cent, which jumped to about 100 per cent by Sunday.
In its first week, the film collected about Rs 22 crore.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006)

The multi-starrer released in 1200 cinemas worldwide and opened to packed houses. The film had Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji.
KANK received mixed reviews from critics. It made Rs 60 crore in its first week. The total worldwide gross touched Rs 113 crore.
Veer-Zaara (2004)

Veer Zaara was a 2004 Diwali release. It marked the return of filmmaker Yash Chopra after the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), which was also a super-hit.
Veer-Zaara made around Rs 3 crore on its opening day. In its first week it grossed Rs 17 crore, an opening week record that held till 2005. It was considered a super-hit.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001)

This was Karan Johar's second film after his super-hit debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which also had Shah Rukh Khan in the lead.
K3G boasted of a huge star cast with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor in leading roles.
It was made for Rs 40 crore and went on to become a super success.
K3G broke all opening records at the box office in 2001. It opened to around Rs 6 crore collection in its first weekend in India and the first week's total touched Rs 13 crore.
It released with 125 prints overseas. The lifetime gross of K3G reached Rs 117.29 crore.
