With the huge success of Janapriyan, Jayasurya has become unstoppable. The Malayalam film, scripted by Krishna Poojappura and directed by Boban Samuel, is about a likeable young village youth who makes an impact on the lives of a few people. Jayasurya was also seen in Jayaraj's The Train, which had Mammootty playing the lead.
Now the young hero will be seen in National Award winning director T V Chandran's Sankaranum Mohananum and also in V K Prakash's Three Kings. Currently he is shooting for Nidhish Shakthi's Vadhyar and M Padmakumar's Pathiramanal.
In an exclusive chat with Meghna George, Jayasurya talks about his career, movies and more.
Your latest release Janapriyan is doing very well at the box office. Is it yet another success story with scenarist Krishna Poojappura?
I have been part of most of his films and luckily for me, the films have done well. I don't know if he has written characters with me in mind or not, but somehow they suit me perfectly.
Recently, he came to me with the script for director Saji Surendran's next, titled Kunjaliyan. I was laughing all along while listening to the story. It is narrated in a very humorous way and I am quite excited about the film already.

'Sankaranum Mohananum is a story of two brothers'

Your next release, Sankaranum Mohananum is being seen as award winning director T V Chandran's foray into commercial entertainers. What was the experience like?
I don't know if it will happen again in my career but I regard it an honour to have been directed by a filmmaker of the stature of T V Chandran. He's a brilliant director, and it may be just another experiment for him, but it is going to be an altogether new experience for the viewers. I asked him which is his favourite among the films that he has made and he said it was Sankaranum Mohananum. He said it was a really challenging film for him. Everyone involved in the film has put in a great effort.
I feel proud to have done the film as an actor and T V Chandran sir gave me complete freedom. I would say make-up artiste Pattanam Rasheed is the other hero in the film. He did an excellent job of giving me more than 20 different looks in the film. The film is being produced by Raju Mallyath and Prem Prakash and Century Films is distributing it.
What is Sankaranum Mohananum all about?
It is actually the relationship between a 45-year-old man named Sankaran and his 30-year-old brother, Mohanakrishnan. What excited me was that I had to play two entirely different characters that behaved and talked in completely different ways. Sankaran, my character in the movie, goes through several emotions. He is romantic, sad and humorous as well.

'I play a double role in Pathiramanal'

You are playing a school teacher in Vadhyar. Can you talk about your character in the film?
The character I play never wanted to be a school teacher. His father was a highly respected teacher, but he did not grasp the admiration everyone had for his father. His father's students have now become successful but he did not understand the significance of that. So, he becomes a school teacher rather reluctantly. The school heads into a crisis and that's when he mends his ways and realises the meaning of his noble profession.
Which are your future projects?
We have completed a brief schedule of Pathiramanal, scripted by Babu Janardhanan and directed by M Padmakumar. I am doing a double role in it. Then there are films like Pig Man, Mr Security and Ardhanareewshwaran.
