First Look: Prithviraj in Celluloid

Prithviraj plays the role of J C Daniel, regarded as the father of Malayalam cinema, in director Kamal's Celluloid.

Daniel had produced, directed, written, photographed, edited and acted in the first film evermade in Kerala called Vigathakumaran. He also established the first film studioin Kerala.

Mamta Mohandas plays the role of Janet, Daniel's wife.

J C Daniel's first Malayalam film, Vigathakumaran, appeared in1928.

A young girl named P K Rosy played the heroine in the film. It is said she had to leave her home and move away after the release of the movie. She lived the rest of her life in oblivion. Daniel's amazing contributions too were not appreciated during his lifetime.

Celluloid is being made under the banner of Prime Time Cinema. The cinematographer is Venu and the music director is M Jayachandran.

The shooting of the film is currently going on in Thiruvananthapuram.
