Sony Entertainment Television's new show Bhaskar Bharti boasts of quite a unique concept, at least on television.
Bhaskar Bharti, starring Eijaz Khan, is the desi adaptation of La Lola, a humourous take on a Casanova, who turns into a woman and sees life from the other side of the 'romance'.
Eijaz, who's back on telly after a long hiatus, tells Rajul Hegde how he got into the skin of Casanova Bhaskar.
'I was laughing non-stop when I first read the script'
Image: Eijaz KhanYou stayed away from television after Kavyanjali and did films like Zameen and Just Married. What prompted you to take up this role in Bhaskar Bharati?
It was not a conscious decision to do films. I had got those offers when I was doing television.
The concept of Bhaskar Bharati is unique, the role is interesting and it was new to desi TV. It was a big opportunity for me to play Bhaskar. I was very excited about it and grabbed it.
Please tell us about your character Bhaskar.
Bhaskar comes from a small town and establishes himself in a publication. He works hard, parties a lot and flirts with girls. He thinks it's cool to have affairs. He is not emotional and isn't guilty about flirting.
Some girls take him seriously and curse him when they discover his playboy image. I can't give out details of the plot. You have to watch the show. But I was laughing non-stop when I first read the script.
'I've broken a couple of hearts'
Image: Eijaz KhanAre you like Bhaskar?
Bhaskar is half of what I am! (smiles) I must have inspired them [to come up with this show].
I was very shy till class 10. I could not talk to girls. Once I joined college and when I realised that I wasn't bad looking, I became confident and made a lot of friends.
How many hearts did you break in real life?
A couple of them (smiles)
How will you react if you wake up one morning, and realise that you have turned into a girl?
I don't even want to think about it (smiles).
What do you like about girls?
I don't know. But I do know that it is difficult to live without them! (smiles)
Is marriage on the cards with Anita Hassanandani?
I don't want to discuss about my personal life in public.
'When I was under Balaji's wing, I would do whatever they offered'
Image: Eijaz KhanDid you miss work during your long break?
It always feels good to come back to work. I did three films and did a lot of travelling to places like Canada and the US. Two of my films are ready but I don't know when they will release. I will do two more films.
I am a person who gets bored easily without work. I cannot sit and play with a dog to kill time. So when I was offered this, I got really excited.
You are a good dancer but we haven't seen you in any reality show.
They don't give me any offers because they know that if I participate, I will win. Jokes apart, I was offered many reality shows. But reality shows don't excite me because I have being dancing since childhood.
Are you choosy about your work?
When I was under Balaji's wing, I would do whatever they offered. But now I think I should be choosy.
