Dancing to Sunidhi Chauhan, KK

Reader Abhijit Masih attended a Sunidhi Chauhan-KK concert in the UAE on January 28. He sent us this report:

After the sandstorm that hit Dubai last weekend, the evening saw the twin forced gale of Sunidhi Chauhan and KK delight the audience at the Madinat Arena in Dubai. The concert was part of the Dubai Shopping Festival celebrations organised by Oberoi Middle East.

The show started bang on time with KK's Tere Pyar Mein from the film Bas Ek Pal. The first hour saw hits from Dil Chahta Hai, Main Hoon Na and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. The cheers got louder with Junoon (New York) and Khuda Jaaney (Bachna Ae Haseeno).

The first time I noticed KK was when I heard Main Khuda from Anurag Kashyap's still-unreleased film Paanch in 2000. I was blown away with his performance that evening.

The first hour was power-packed but the heavy artillery was to follow.

Sunidhi, in a not so Sheila-esq attire, came on stage and began with Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu from Bluffmaster.

The other tracks from her vast repertoire of Hindi film songs included Dhoom Machaley (Dhoom), Beedi Jalayeele (Omkara), Chaliyan Chaliyan (Tashan) and Marjaani Marjaani (Billu Barber).

As if on cue, she broke into the smash hit Sheila Ki Jawani (Tees Maar Khan), as soon as the mostly Indian crowd yelled out the request.

Sunidhi showed her versatility as a stage performer with Apni To Jaise Taise from Houseful.

The only thing lacking in both performances was the absence of back up dancers, which would have complimented the high voltage tracks. That's food for thought for the organisers.

KK came back on stage and accompanied Sunidhi on Sajdey (Khatta Meetha) and Ek Nazar Mein Bhi (Taxi No 9211).

KK then brought the tempo down with some of his ballads. The loudest applause was for the acoustic version of Bin Tere Bin Tere (I Hate Luv Storys).

This was followed by Pal from his album, which was dedicated to the late Shamin Desai, the director of the video.

Sunidhi was back on stage after a wardrobe change (still nothing close to Sheila or Housefull's Dhanno).

The second set included the more popular Parda Parda (Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai) and Shut Up and Bounce (Dostana).

The uninterrupted filmi bonanza lasted a little over four hours, much to the pleasure of the famished crowd for their infrequent Bollywood doze.
