Bollywood Horror Sequels We'd Like To See!

When it comes to action, romance or comedy, Bollywood is enthusiasm personified. Mention horror, however, and there's hardly much to talk about.

Except for a handful of black and white classics, a decade of grotesque Ramsay creations and some engaging efforts by Ram Gopal Varma, the scary movie genre is unbelievably ignored in Hindi films. 

Things look pleasantly grim with Vikram Bhatt's third film in the Raaz series hitting the screens this Friday in 3D even as Varma unveiled a first look for Bhoot Returns, a sequel to his star-studded take on The Exorcist.

On that note, here's a look at some of Bollywood's horror flicks we'd love to see sequels of. 

13B: Fear Has a New Address

The R Madhavan-Neetu Chandra starrer is one of those rare films that succeeds in terrifying as well as making a powerful comment on society's obsession with the idiot box.

Things get awry within a flat after the television begins to resemble the interactions within the family watching it only to imply something murderous is up next. It would be wicked fun to see what ominous 13B holds for its new set of inhabitants.

Varma's relentlessly creepy horror featuring Revathy as a fun-loving girl-possessed-by-vengeful-soul continues to draw screams from its unsuspecting, weak-hearted viewers. The filmmaker's technique and timing coupled with its chilling heroine ensure Raat its place in history.

Moreover, the last scene, a little boy opening the door of the dark basement, implied that evil still lurks around. How about exploring it, RGV?

Reactions to Ramsay's offerings are as extreme as their enormously cosmetic ghosts. Yet the cult production house is fondly remembered for its clumsy but determined participation in the realm of spooky. 

Purana Mandir is one such gem.

Here's the deal. The bloody-sucking, cannibalistic demon Samri lays a fearful curse that transforms women of a family into revolting creatures the minute they have a baby.

Mohinish Bahl and Puneet Issar try to find a solution to his monstrous problem. You can only imagine what's in store. If not, Return of Samri is more than welcome.

Remember how a girl breaks a fish aquarium by constantly gazing at it?

Yet another Ramsay brand of terror is keenly demonstrated in Veerana. So there are three girls, one's the heroine, another is her cousin and third's a witch residing in the body of the cousin to go on a killing spree.

Oh and there's also a devious, witchcraft expert Baba (Rajesh Vivek) who aids the nasty spirit with his knowledge.

Excessive seems to be the norm anyway at present. So how about a Veerana sequel to go? Who know it might get a Rs 100 Crore opening too?

Partho Ghosh's 100 Days with Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff didn't have any flying spirits or demons but it did well as a supernatural horror.

Here, the heroine has the unusual gift of seeing a crime in the future before it's actually happened. Almost like those pre-cogs from Minority Report, only prettier.  

So how about making another tell-all tape, call it 101 Days but this time let the hero bear the brunt of all those optical powers. 

The one where one of Hindi cinema's most revered performers plays a beast in the garb of a good guy attacking the bride in red. In case, there's still some of you haven't seen this Rajkumar Kohli classic, we'll save the spoiler for another time.

Well, technically, there was another Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahaani, an insult of a sequel and so it's only fair to re-attempt with a cast as mega (Sunil Dutt, Shatrughan Sinha, Jeetendra, Vinod Mehra, Sanjeev Kumar, Reena Roy, Rekha, Neetu Singh) as the original and production values of a Dharma or Yashraj. 

Been a while since a lady clad in pristine white sari, open hair, mysterious smile and lilting song stopped a stranger in the middle of the night and asked for a lift to the cemetery.

So everybody knows the mystery behind Manoj Kumar-Sadhana's Woh Kaun Thi.

But a sequel can afford to make things more edgy about, perhaps a great granddaughter, obsessed with her ancestor's spooky history leading to paranormal activities. Brrr.
