Kannada film Rocky is directed by award-winning editor and actor Nagendra Aras. But his directorial debut Heart Beats was a much better product than this eminently forgettable new film.
Rocky shows that Aras does not know how to narrate a film. He has borrowed sequences and ideas from films like Allu Arjun's Telugu film Arya and Rajiv Menon's Tamil film Kandukondaein Kandukondaein.
Rocky stars talented young actor Yeshwaant, who was promising in films like Jambada Hudugi and Moggina Manasu. Unfortunately, he looks uncomfortable here, as the role lacks clarity.
Rocky is a happy go lucky young college student, who has been robbed off parental love. Both his parents are extremely busy in their own worlds. Rocky loves his college friend Usha, who, in turn, loves musician Vishwas. Vishwas, however, does not love her in return.
In an effort to please Usha, Rocky pleads with Vishwas to love Usha. Vishwas, the brother of underworld don Nanda, thinks that this is a trap laid by his brother's enemies. Whether Rocky gets the girl in the end is what the film is about.
Newcomer Biyaanka looks good and acts well in the emotional sequences. The comedy sequences are badly handled.
Music director Venkat and Narayan score two strong numbers like Valla Vallare and the title song. Dialogue writer Vijay Chendur has written crisp dialogues. But the senseless story makes the film a failure. Cameraman Sudhakar comes off good with his camera work.
