'Fitoor was never meant to be Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur's story. In Gattu's screenplay, the dramatic conflict centred on the characters played by Tabu and Katrina.'
Now that Fitoor has proved to be an epic letdown, the blame-game has started.
Apparently, during its shooting, director Abhishek Kapoor and his producer UTV had 'innumerable creative differences' over how Fitoor should be shot and later, marketed.
Says a source close to Kapoor, "Gattu (as Abhishek Kapoor is called in filmi circles) wanted to make Charles Dickens' Great Expectations faithfully. UTV decided to turn it into something else. According to Gattu, Fitoor was never meant to be Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur's story. In Gattu's screenplay, the dramatic conflict centred on the characters played by Tabu and Katrina."
UTV, apparently, had other plans.
Says the source, "They turned Gattu's plot away from the central conflict between mother and daughter Tabu and Katrina, and made it into a Katrina-Aditya love story. They released a romantic music video of the film without Gattu's approval."
Apparently, there were a lot arguments over the filming of the Pashmina song on Katrina and Aditya.
"Since that song was not part of the film, Gattu opposed shooting and airing it. His worst fears came true when audiences went in to see Katrina and Aditya dancing to Pashmina and came away disappointed," says Kapoor's friend.
The director, who is presently in Goa, remained unavailable for comment.
