A look at the week's releases.
The year so far has been good for the Tamil cinema.
And it might just get better this weekend.
There are exciting promising movies coming up, and viewers will be spoilt for choice.
Take a look at the week's releases:
Saahasam
Director: Arun Raj Varma
Cast: Prashanth, Amanda, Abeetha, Vamsi Krishna and Nassar
After 2011's Mambattiyan, Prashanth was seen in Pulan Visaranai 2 last year. Both films barely made an impression and the actor is looking to score points with his latest venture Saahasam.
The film is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Julai, starring Allu Arjun and Ileana D'Cruz.
Directed by debutant Arun Raj Varma, the film has been written and produced by his father Thiagarajan.
Australian model Amanda will share screen space with Prashanth in the film.
Nargis Fakhri, pictured here with Prashanth, puts in an item number.
Bangalore Naatkal
Director: Bommarillu Bhaskar
Cast: Arya, Sri Divya, Bobby Simha, Rana Daggubati, Samantha, Parvathy and Raai Laxmi
After Papanasam, Tamil cinema will see yet another Malayalam remake called Bangalore Naatkal.
Anjali Menon’s Bangalore Days was one of the highest grossing Malayalam films of that year and expectations are high for the Tamil version too, directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar.
Produced under the PVP Cinema banner, the film has Arya essaying the role portrayed by Dulquer Salman in the original and Bobby Simha reprising the role of Nivin Pauly.
Sri Divya of Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam fame has been roped in to play the bubbly Ammu made popular by Nazriya Nazim.
Visaranai
Director: Vetrimaaran
Cast: Attakathi Dinesh, Anandhi, and Aadukalam Murugadoss
After its premiere at the 72nd Venice Film Festival, where it won the Amnesty International Italia award last year, director Vetrimaaran’s Visaranai hits theatres this weekend.
Based on a novel titled Lock Up by M Chandra Kumar, an auto driver from Coimbatore, the film deals with police brutality and the inconsistencies in our judicial system.
The film is jointly produced by director Vetrimaaran and Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films. This is their second production venture together after the National award-winning film Kaaka Muttai.
