Sultan, PK: TOP biggest grossers ever

Salman Khan features in five of these movies!

Salman Khan's Sultan has entered the Rs 300 crore club.

While Aamir Khan's PK leads, Salman follows with two of his movies: Bajrangi Bhaijaan and of course, Sultan.

While these are the only three films in the Rs 300 club, there have been many that stopped just short of it.

A look at the 10 biggest grossers ever.

 

PK
Box office collection: Rs 340.8 crore

When Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani opened the account for the Rs 300 crore club with PK, it seemed like this was a record that won't be broken for a long time.

It was a film with a difference, even with all the comparisons to OMG - Oh My God -- with a huge repeat value.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan
Box office collection: Rs 321 crore

Barely six months later, Salman Khan added to the Rs 300 crore club with Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Directed by Kabir Khan, the film saw a lot of emotion.

It managed to take such high collections even though it did not have a record opening on its release date.

Moreover, it faced huge competition from Baahubali: The Beginning, but still, managed to soar.

Sultan
Box office collection: Rs 300 crore* (still running)

When Salman Khan's Sultan took a record opening on its five-day opening weekend, it had seemed that all records would be thrashed in a jiffy. It may have taken its time, but Sultan still managed a home run.

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film is still running in theatres, weeks after its release.

Anushka Sharma, who stars in Sultan as well as PK, seems lucky for the Rs 300 crore club!

Dhoom 3
Box office collection: Rs 284 crore

Aamir Khan breached the 250 crore mark with Dhoom 3, where he was seen in a double role.

The film took a huge start, sustained well and then enjoyed its Christmas release. For director Vijay Krishna Acharya, it was a sweet comeback after Tashan.

Yash Raj Films enjoyed a great run for its most popular franchise.

Kick
Box office collection: Rs 232 crore

Kick holds the record for being the biggest grosser ever for a debutant director.

When producer Sajid Nadiadwala stepped up to don the director's hat, there was an element of surprise as to how the final product would shape up.

The man surprised though, and how, as Kick boasted of some spectacular action sequences and chartbuster songs.

Chennai Express
Box office collection: Rs 227 crore

The biggest hit ever for Shah Rukh Khan and director Rohit Shetty, this is the first film that brought them together.

The masala entertainer was lapped up by audiences, and also showed Deepika Padukone in a new light.

The film boasted of lively action sequences and hit songs. Despite liberal use of Tamil, audiences across India nodded in approval.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
Box office collection: Rs 210 crore

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo released a few weeks after Bajrangi Bhaijaan and the coming together of Salman Khan and his Maine Pyar Kiya director Sooraj Barjatya turned out to be a huge USP.

Moreover, Himesh Reshammiya's title song was a rage, and Sonam Kapoor's dance step had gone viral. All of that ensured a huge beginning for the film.

Though it couldn't sustain as brilliantly as its start, the film was a hit.

Happy New Year
Box office collection: Rs 205 crore

Shah Rukh Khan and director Farah Khan have enjoyed full success with their earlier films, Main Hoon Naa and Om Shanti Om. So all eyes were on their next film Happy New Year.

The film enjoyed the biggest opening ever but later, the collections did not sustain at the same level. Still, Happy New Year turned out to be a huge money-spinner.

3 Idiots
Box office collection: Rs 202.5 crore

One of Aamir Khan's best films, 3 Idiots saw its collection multiply like no other film.

Directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, the film took a good start, and the sheer brilliance of it made sure the audiences came in big numbers.

The film with Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi still has a huge repeat value and became the first Rs 200 crore affair ever.

Ek Tha Tiger
Box office collection: Rs 199 crore

One can imagine what Salman Khan and Yash Raj Films must have felt after being stranded just a little under the Rs 200 crore mark.

Ek The Tiger took a huge opening, thanks to its terrific promos, hit songs and superb action.

Director Kabir Khan made sure his big budget extravaganza counted in a big way.
