Kannada film Godfather starring Upendra in a triple role, Soundarya, Catherine Tresa and Bhumika Chawla in a guest appearance is the remake of the Ajit's Varalaru.
It should be made clear at the outset at the film is strictly for Upendra's fans.
The story is about a wheelchair-bound father Shiva (Upendra) whose son Vijay (also played by Upendra) is a spoilt brat.
Vijay is sent to a village to do some social service for the poor. He meets Soundarya, a college-going beauty who is there on an assignment with her friends.
Vijay and Soundarya get engaged. Vijay's twin brother Ajay enters the scene later
and confusion follows.
Does Vijay marry Soundarya? What happens to Ajay?
It is Upendra's show all the way. The first half is dull and dreary. But the second half picks up pace and Upendra shows his prowess convincingly. Upendra wins accolades for portraying the role of a dancer and his superb body language. The film is a must for Upendra's fans.
Debutant Soundarya has a long way to go. Catherine Tresa is adequate. Bhumika Chawla makes a guest appearance in a dance number.
Rajesh Ramanath's background score is below average. A R Rahman has used some of his rejected tunes for his songs in this movie. Sriram's direction is just average.
Watch this movie if you are an Upendra fan.
