Television stars reveal their love stories.
Quite a few television stars have met and fallen in love with their co-stars on the sets of their shows, and even gotten married to them.
Since love is in the air this Valentine's Day, we asked some actors to go back in time and talk about the loves of their lives.
Ruslaan Mumtaz-Nirali Mehta
Ruslaan, who stars in the serial Kehta Hai Dil Jee Le Zara, did not meet his love on the sets of his show. But Valentine's Day is going to be very dear to him, as he'll be getting married on that day!
He gives us the details:
I met my fiancée Nirali nine years ago at Shiamak Davar’s dance classes.
Later, she got busy with her finance job and I was concentrating on my acting but we kept in touch and discussed everything under the sun like best friends do.
I don’t know what I was really looking for in my life partner. Suddenly I realised one day I was in love with Nirali. We have been dating for two years.
Both her parents are doctors; they were not sure about me. They told her to break off our relationship. But I told her that I will convince them when I meet them, which I did.
There was no problem from my end, so finally we got engaged in January.
We celebrated New Year's Eve in Mahableshwar at a friend’s bungalow. I took her onto the terrace and proposed to her. She couldn’t hold back her emotions and started crying.
We are having a court marriage on February 14.
I wasn't keen on traditional rituals since my parents had a court marriage. But Nirali is a Gujarati and she wants a traditional wedding, and to dress up as a bride. So we will have a wedding ceremony as well, in March.

'My face would light up when I met her'
Image: Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina BonerjeeGurmeet Choudhary and his wife Debina Bonerjee have worked in a couple of shows like Ramayan and Nach Baliye 6. They are currently in South Africa shooting for their new show, Kathron Ki Khiladi.
Gurmeet tells us their story:
I met Debina at a friend’s party. We liked each other and the friendship grew.
Later, when I was offered Ramayan on NDTV Imagine, Debina got the role of Sita. We realised we were in love but I could never say it.
We have no clue how and when exactly it happened but yes, we started carrying each other’s hearts since then. Our love blossomed during this serial.
Debina knew that I loved her from my actions; the way my face would light up when I met her. But we were apprehensive about telling each other. I was, and am, a very shy person.
Then one day Debina asked me if I wanted to tell her something special. That is how it happened. After being in a relationship for a year, we decided to get married.
But we were waiting for the right time. Finally, after six years, we tied the knot.
Debina was scared of dogs but during the shoot of Pati Patni Aur Woh, we were given a dog to handle. Debina fell in love with him.
So I gifted her a dog, Dextor. He is very lovable. She was happily surprised when I gave her the pup.
For my birthday once she planned a surprise party and invited all our friends. It was amazing. We keep surprising each other like this.
'Marriage will happen when God plans'
Image: Payal Rohatgi and Sangram SinghActress Payal Rohatgi, who has worked in films like Plan and 36 China Town, found love in wrestler Sangram Singh.
When Sangram faced some resistance in Bigg Boss 7, Payal offered him support, and added some cheer to his day.
Payal tells us how they met:
I first met Sangram in 2011 on the Delhi-Agra highway. My car had broken down and people had started gathering.
Sangram was passing by and helped me out of the situation. We exchanged numbers but he never called me.
A few months later, we met again through a reality show called Survivor India. Living together for 45 days, we developed feelings for each other and started dating after the show.
For more than two years now we have been in a live-in relationship.
The best thing that happened to me after we started dating is that my parents reconciled after 16 years. All this happened because of Sangram.
My father shifted to Ahmedabad from Gurgaon after he met Sangram. He has a way of being nice to people and doing things. It's not that my parents hated each other before, it’s just that they weren’t living together because of their differences. I will always appreciate this.
We have brought a new place; it's EMI free now and my whole life starts and ends with Sangram.
I used to be hyper but now I have calmed down. He is such a positive person. I am lucky to have him as my partner. Marriage will also happen when God plans.
Valentine’s Day is to spread love; it is not only about two people.
So we are planning to go to an NGO right behind our house. It will be a meet and greet with the kids. Sangram believes in helping the underprivileged and is also fond of kids.
'We are not romantic people at all'
Image: Sargun Mehta and Ravi DubeyBalika Vadhu's Sargun Mehta and TV host Ravi Dubey found love and romance with each other.
Sargun tells us more:
Ravi and I first met on the sets of 12/24 Karol Bagh, where we were shooting for a marriage advertisement. We became good friends and he helped me find my feet in Mumbai after I moved here.
We fell in love some time after the show went off-air. We liked each other and our friendship turned to love.
We had a courtship of three years before we tied the knot in December 2013.
Ravi proposed to me on the sets of the dance reality show Nach Baliye 5. (On stage, Ravi went down on his knees and proposed on bended knee with a solitaire ring, in the presence of their families.)
We are not romantic people at all. But on our first Valentine’s Day, he came to my place and just put flowers on the table. I had picked up assorted chocolates and perfumes for him.
After chatting for a while, Ravi said he had to go back home as he had left his wallet behind. I said I have money, but he insisted we go to his place.
I found it a little weird, but I accompanied him. When I went out on the terrace, I saw that he had spread a bed-sheet on the water tank, and on it was a champagne bottle, two glasses, candles, cards, cake and flowers!
He was embarrassed and said that it was difficult for him to do all those lovey-dovey things but he pulled it off so well...
I got the go-ahead from my parents and then we spoke out about our relationship.
We got married after three years of courtship. I'm lucky to have Ravi as my partner. He is my support and also keeps me calm.
This Valentine’s Day I will be shooting for my serial while he will be walking for a cause in Dubai.
'Ashish is a romantic person; he loves hugging, sending messages, saying nice things'
Image: Archana Taide and Ashish SharmaRangrasiya's Ashish Sharma pursued Qubool Hai's Archana Taide for a while before she gave in to his charms.
She tells us how it happened:
I first met Ashish in Baroda through a director friend. Ashish was shooting for Chandra Gupta Maurya while I was there to shoot an episode for Mahima Shani Dev.
Ashish invited me for his birthday. I went to the birthday party just to wish him, and came back within 10 minutes.
The next day Ashish asked why I didn’t stay longer. I told him that I am a reserved person.
I went to Baroda again to shoot an episode. Ashish was still there. We met again and exchanged our BB pin. I left for Mumbai and he told me to message him once I reached Mumbai.
I found it weird because I hardly knew him, so I didn’t message him. But he kept messaging me.
Actually, I was going through a bad phase after the break-up of my earlier relationship.
My best friend Vinny Arora was checking my phone one day and saw Ashish’s messages. I was depressed so to cheer me up she said I should reply to his messages. I didn’t show any interest, so she started replying to his messages.
Ashish replied to her messages thinking it was me. We were supposed to meet after he moved to Mumbai.
I didn’t want to hurt Vinny so I met him casually; I didn’t tell him about the messages.
When my mother was hospitalised, Ashish would finish his shooting and come over to be with me.
It’s human nature that you tend to like people who support you in bad times. We started going out.
One day, Ashish told me he wanted to marry me.
I wasn't ready yet, so Ashish said he would wait for me.
Six months later, he was leaving for London for the shooting of Rab Se Sohna Isshq. I told him to tell his parents to speak to mine.
I went to meet him in London. It was a long distance relationship for some time. We got engaged after he came back, in 2012, and got married in 2013.
I am very bad at expressing my love, but good at giving surprises. Ashish is a romantic person; he loves hugging, sending messages, saying nice things.
We are producing a serial, which we recently launched, for a regional channel in Jaipur. Ashish and I will be busy shooting with the unit on Valentine’s Day.
Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh
Image: Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda SheikhAamir Ali of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki and FIR fame and Sanjeeda Sheikh of Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka fame are like a package deal on reality shows.
Sanjeeda tells us how they got together:
I first met Aamir at a friend’s birthday party. From day one we enjoyed each other’s company. Eventually, we became best friends.
Gradually, we started getting feelings for each other and I felt that I felt he was the right person to spend my life with.
We have never worked together except in reality shows. Before getting married, we were together for seven beautiful years.
There were many ups and downs in our relationship, but it shaped up well and today we are happily married.
I am very practical. Aamir is very romantic and would like to do all filmi stuff.
I love my life after marriage; it's just perfect. Aamir treats me like a princess and as I mentioned, he is a little bit filmi and romantic so he keeps making me feel special all the time with his little surprises.
