This Christmas sees the release of Oru Indian Pranaykatha that has the unusual team of director Sathyan Anthikkad and actor Fahadh Faasil.

Sathyan Anthikkad is known for his conventional family dramas. Fahadh Faasil is mainly identified with ‘out of the box’ kind of films.

They are joined by actress Amala Paul, who is part of some sensational projects in various south Indian languages. She makes a rare return to Malayalam films as the female lead.

“I am taking a fresh step with a lead pair that is quite unlike my usual brand of protagonists. Of course, it will have the style of filmmaking that has always been my identity,” says Sathyan.

“There have been some changes in my usual team as well. Dr Iqbal Kuttippuram is the scenarist, Pradeep Nair wields the camera and Vidyasagar scores the music,” he adds.

Oru Indian Pranaykatha has been produced by Central Pictures.

Fahadh Faasil plays Aymanam Sidharthan, local leader of the youth wing of a political outfit.

A protégé of the party’s district president Uthup Vallikkadan (Innocent), Sidharthan hopes that the party will nominate him as a candidate if the ailing MLA from his area dies and a by-election is held.
But when the party decides against his wishes, Sidharthan is disappointed.

"Amala’s character Irene is a Canadian citizen of Malayali origin. She has come to make a documentary and seeks help from Sidharthan. After a while, they become close,” the director says.

Sathyan says he has made use of topical issues to add some humour. “The heated debates during prime time on various TV channels ensure some easy publicity for our politicians and political analysts, and there are some comic scenes of that nature in the film,” he says.

According to the director, Oru Indian Pranaykatha is a love story with politics as the backdrop.
