Vijay G in Kochi
After going through a lull in his career, things seem to be back on track for Jayasurya. His latest release, Philips and the Monkey Pen has received appreciation from viewers of all ages.
The song that he sang for Punyalan Agarbathis, releasing this weekend, is a major hit.
Currently, he is shooting for director Boban Samuel’s yet-to- be-titled film, in which he is playing a visually challenged youth, who finds a place in the Indian cricket team for the blind.
In an exclusive interview, Jayasurya talks to Vijay G about his latest films and more.
You have turned producer with Punyalan Agarbathis. How did you look at the responsibility?
It was because I liked the script that I decided to co-produce the film, along with its director Ranjith Sankar.
We thoroughly enjoyed the process and the film has come out really well.
What is your character in the film?
I am playing this young businessman named Joy Thakkolkkaran from Thrissur. He has failed in most of his earlier ventures but dreams of making it really big in life some day.
His latest effort is to make incense sticks from elephant dung and the brand is called Punyalan Agarbathis.
'I have received so many calls saying they loved my voice'

We just decided to give it a try and the response has been truly overwhelming.
I have received so many calls saying they loved my voice, which thrilled me.
There is a scene in the trailer where the cops object to you covering potholes on a public road. Is this your reply to the Kochi mayor after the recent real life controversy?
(Laughs) Not at all. If I had to respond, I could have done it earlier, right?
All I can say is that our society should accept developments that are happening around us with a positive frame of mind.
