Veteran singer Manna Dey, who breathed his last in Bengaluru earlier this morning, was an artist par excellence and had many admirers in the Hindi and Bengali film industry.
While several celebrities took to Twitter to pay tributes to the late singer, condolences from other stars and fans have been pouring in.
Acclaimed Bengali filmmaker Aparna Sen said, "It's an irreparable loss for the world of music. I did not get to spend much time with him, I regret that.'

'Flooded with memories of Manna Dey's rendition of Madhushala'

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, "T 1200 -Manna Dey, stalwart of the music world, passes away. Flooded with memories and his songs. In particular his rendition of Madhushala."
Dey had done playback for the famous Yaari hai imaan mera song -- picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Pran -- in Praksha Mehra's Zanjeer.

The two have collaborated on innumerable hits like Pyaar Huaa Ikraar Huaa, Chunari Sambhal Gori Udhi Chali, Yeh Raat Bheegi-Bheegi, Aaja Sanam Madhur Chandni Men among others.
"Today, great classical singer Manna Dey sahab, who we fondly called Manna da, is not among us anymore. He had a very pleasant and easy personality. He was very dedicated to his work. I salute him and pray that his soul rests in peace," Mangeshkar reminisced on Twitter after Dey's death.
Recalling her first song recording with the legendary singer, she said, "As far as I remember I sang composer Anil Biswas' classical song with him in the year 1947 or 1948. It was the first time we worked together."
Mangeshkar, 84, and Dey's duet Pyar Hua Ikraar Hua from Shri 420, picturised on Raj Kapoor and Nargis on a rainy night under an umbrella, is among the most popular romantic classic songs.

Several Bengali artists remembered the legendary singer as well.
"Manna De cannot die, his songs will immortalise him," said singer Banasree Sengupta.
"Manna De was the jewel of India," said Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty.
Writer Samaresh Majumdar said, "I learnt the song of life and love from Manna Dey. In our times, it was not easy to speak our minds, especially if there were women around. Hence we often sang his songs to draw attention of our ‘love interests.'
"I met him about 10 years back at Kolkata’s International Club. ‘How long do you plan to keep singing?’ I had asked him then. The day I lose my voice, I will die,’ he had said. It pained me to know that he was ailing. He should not have suffered so much.
"With his demise, a part of my old self is gone. His songs alone can pay him the best tribute."
