The film is directed by Rajnikanth's youngest daughter Soundarya, with story and supervision by well known Tamil director K S Ravikumar and music by A R Rahman.
Other than Rajni, the film stars Deepika Padukone, Jackie Shroff, Sharat Kumar, Nazzar, Shobana, Aadi, and Rukmani.
The shooting of the film is over and post-production work is in progress. The Tamil satellite rights have been sold to Jaya TV and the Telugu rights to Messrs Lakshmi Ganapathy Films, Hyderabad.
As a marketing strategy, Eros and Mediaone have tied up with Karbonn Mobiles to launch 5,00,000 Kochadaiyaan mobile phones to celebrate the release of the film.
Karbonn's 'Kochadaiyaan' mobiles will have exclusive screen savers and images from the film along with the trailer and
the signature tune of the film. These special mobiles will be released in September/ October during the audio launch of the film.
Sunil Lulla, managing director, Eros International Media Ltd said in a press release, "Eros is proud to be associated with Rajnikanth once again. We are confident that like Sivaji and Robot, this will also be a landmark film in Rajnikanth's career. We will also be releasing a separate Hindi version along with the Tamil version."
Sudhir Hasija, chairman, Karbonn Mobiles added, "The Karbonn Kochadaiyaan phone will come embedded with behind-the-scenes footage, movie trailers and songs from the movie, Rajnikanth's popular film dialogues, wall papers, etc. A special treat is Rajnikanth's digital signature on the back panel of the phone."
The film is expected to release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English in December to coincide with Rajni's birthday.
The music release of the film is planned in Tokyo where Rajnikanth has a huge fan base, and multi-city premieres of the film are being planned in Los Angeles, London and across India.
