AR Rahman performed at the UN General Assembly hall at a concert to mark India's 70th Independence Day in New York.
Rahman is the second Indian artist after Carnatic singer MS Subbulakshmi to perform in the General Assembly hall, and interestingly, chose to sing her renditions on the occasion of her birth centenary.
The highlight of the nearly three-hour concert was performances by the Sunshine Orchestra, an initiative by the AR Rahman Foundation, that teaches music to underprivileged youngsters.
Rahman's sisters also performed on stage along with singer Javed Ali and percussionist Sivamani.
The maestro performed some of his popular songs as well, from movies like Dil Se, Bombay and Johda Akbar. He ended it with his Oscar-winning song Jai Ho from the film Slumdog Millionaire.
