Alphonse Puthren’s Premam bagged major awards in the Malayalam category at the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA), held on July 1 at Singapore.
Producer Anwar Rasheed received the Best Film trophy, and Nivin Pauly accepted the Best Director award on Alphonse’s behalf.
"It’s perhaps the first major award for Alphonse Puthren, as the director of Premam," Nivin said. "I are thrilled that SIIMA acknowledged his brilliance."
Nivin Pauly won the Best Actor (Critic’s choice) for the film, and dedicated his trophy to late director Rajesh Pillai.
"It was Rajesh Pillai who first told me that I would win awards for Premam. As I receive this award, he is no more. I dedicate it to his memory," Nivin said emotionally.
Rajesh had directed him in a cameo role in his directorial debut Traffic (2011); Nivin later played the lead in Pillai's next film, Mili.
Rajesh had also announced his Motorcycle Diaries with Nivin but that project never happened. The filmmaker passed away on February 27.
Premam won the major music awards too, with Rajesh Murugesan winning the Best Music director award, Shabareesh Varma winning the Best Lyricist award and Vijay Yesudas winning the Best Playback Singer (Male) award.
The Best Playback Singer (Female) went to Baby Sreya for her song in Amar Akbar Anthony.
Parvathy won the Best Actress (Critic’s choice) award for Ennu Ninte Moideen whereas Sidhique won the Best Supporting award for his stellar show as Lanchi Velayudhan in Pathemari.
Lena won the Best Supporting Actress award for Ennu Ninte Moideen and Aju Varghese was chosen as the Best Comedian for Two Countries.

Prithviraj meets up with classmates
Prithviraj, who won the Best Actor (Popular Choice) award for his performance in Ennu Ninte Moideen at the SIIMA, attended the gala event with his wife Supriya.
While in Singapore, the superstar made sure to meet up with his friends from college, Chun Whee and Marcus.
Later, he posted the pictures of their children Adriel and Ashleigh on his Facebook page.

Kabir Bedi wins an award
Kabir Bedi was one of the star attractions at the SIIMA awards, and he picked up an award for Best Villain for the Malayalam film Anarkali.
The actor was also one of the presenters of the award ceremony on the first day, when Telugu and Kannada awards were announced.
