'Bigg Boss is there for 100 days but I have to be in the industry for the rest of my life. If I start behaving like a buffoon, and shout, scream, play dirty games and physically manhandle people, whatever I have earned in these years will go down the drain.'
Aman Verma explains his stint in the popular reality show.
Aman Verma may have shaved his head for Bigg Boss 9 but it was clearly not enough for the show. The actor has been evicted. Perhaps he did not heed host Salman Khan's advice of coming out of his shell?
Aman tells Rediff.com contributor Rajul Hegde how he coped inside the house.
You looked very surprised when your name was announced for eviction.
Yes, I was very surprised because I was fair in the house. There wasn't a moment where I crossed the line.
I always thought I would be among the top three but the show is very unpredictable. There is no definite pattern to play the game. For example, Rimi Sen didn't even play a task but she still had the power to nominate. On the other hand, Mandana (Karimi) was given the power to save someone.
I do not doubt the doubting the voting system but Rimi Sen is being bashed on social networking sites and being told that she should leave the house, and yet, she is still getting votes.
But I am not going to sit and crib; I can easily switch off and move on.
You looked calm and composed on the show. You didn’t try to be loud or fight for footage.
My personality is not like that. I come from a background where people are taught to behave in a certain way.
Rimi Sen and I are the only two people in Bigg Boss, who are recognised.
Rimi has not done many films but she's been a film actress.
I have done a lot of work. People recognise me. I have survived in the industry for 17-18 years because I have lived in a certain way and been very focused. I cannot turn my personality around just because I am a part of Bigg Boss.
Bigg Boss is there for 100 days but I have to be in the industry for the rest of my life. If I start behaving like a buffoon, and shout, scream, play dirty games and physically manhandle people, whatever I have earned in these years will go down the drain. There is no reason for me to change myself for just 100 days.
My family would have slapped me if I spat into somebody’s water or food (like Kishwar Merchant did, during a task).
Who's playing the dirty games in the show?
I think the negativity is attached to Kishwar’s personality for the way she has conducted herself in the house.
I have been out for a day and every time I have a conversation, people who generally don’t comment on anyone, have told me that we don’t spit into people’s food. That’s not classy, especially when you are on national television.
I won’t be surprised if tomorrow when she goes to a restaurant and people might just joke and ask her, 'khana normal du ya tuukay duu?' It can be a joke but that would be a slap on her face.
Is Mandana really difficult as she seems to be in the show?
Mandana is a stubborn person and I don’t blame her because of the background she comes from. She had to stand up against everybody in the family to reach where she is today. So she has opinions and sticks to them. When it comes to playing the task, she is fair.
Who's playing the game well?
Rochelle (Rao) is clean and fair. I am happy that Keith Sequeira went away. She was under his shadow till the time he was there, Now, she's standing for herself. She doesn’t b**** around and stands a strong chance to win the game.
What did you think of Salman Khan's hosting skills?
Salman is fantastic and absolutely fair. He is clear about what he likes and dislikes.
One of the reasons I went to Bigg Boss was because I'm a big fan.
I like watching him on the weekends, when the entire week's story unfolds. It's Salman all the way.
I also wanted to be a part of the show to clear the controversies associated with me. I want to convey that I am polite, sophisticated and well-mannered. I guess I did clear that and have come out with dignity.
Are you going to stay in touch with the contestants?
I connected only with Keith and after that, with Rochelle because she respects everyone. I will miss Rochelle and Mandana for the good times we had inside the house.
I have nothing against anyone; I will be cordial to everyone when we meet or work together.
What next?
I will take a break and go on holiday for 10 days and travel.
I have a few films and television projects lined up but haven't decided which ones to take up.
